Custom Columns and Porch Posts, have NOT been tested for load bearing, and are sold as non-weight bearing.
Wood porch posts are built for the exterior but have no exterior warranty.
Note some designs can be quoted in a Cellular PVC
The key to using wood exterior components is to finish them with top rated exterior products during installation and when the top coat starts to break down it should be refinished.
Most wood posts fail on the exterior when the shaft is installed before the top and bottom of the post are sealed. Fit the post and before final installation finish with three coats on the top and bottom.
